Sakiori Obi
Sakiori rag weaving obi. I'm listing this under 'Make' rather than 'Wear' because it has a little bit of damage (see photos) and I think one of my clever textile artist customers will be able to make something very special with it. Or it would lovely as a runner or wall hanging.
Sakiori is one of many Japanese textile recycling traditions. Sakiori jackets and vests are typically indigo as you would expect, but obis often come in a range of colours, The white and orange/red fabric used for the weft in this piece are mostly cotton lining fabric. There are some red printed pieces as well that may be from a kimono or lining. . The specks of indigo are probably from cotton yukata or tenugui hand towel. Early - mid 20th century
