Antique Boro Check futonji

Antique indigo cotton  check boro  futon cover fabric (futonji).  Lovely old faded check futon cover  panels that date from early - mid 20th century. Some of the patches  are possibly  older.  This piece measures 132cm x 142cm. Apart from the obvious patches there are a couple of small unpatched holes and some marks, but otherwise in excellent, sturdy condition. 

 In recent years  boro has become associated with  'visible mending', but the interesting stitching and  patching on authentic boro pieces  like this were on the inside of the futon cover and weren't meant to be seen. On this piece the patched side is also less faded. 

A wonderful piece for collectors and lovers of authentic boro.
