Boro Kasuri Nappy
When you find a piece of old fabric about this size stitched into a loop there is a very good chance it was used as a baby's nappy. It was folded into a pad and held in place with a cover. (I used this style of nappy for my first baby in Japan - not very effective!) . This one has been made from a remnant piece of patched indigo kasuri (ikat) boro which looks like it was originally a kimono. The patches would have been on the inside - not against the skin. It measures 33cm x 50cm - or a metre if you want to open it out. . Early - mid 20th century.
