Boro Mat Remnant
I think this piece of Japanese cotton boro has been part of a mat , but possibly a kotatsu or futon cover. It measures approx 77cm x 87cm. This is an authentic antique patched and stitched textile that reflects the poverty that many Japanese lived in up until the post-war years. Boro pieces usually have an identifiable original base that has been repaired. That isn't obvious in this remnant, but it may have originally been constructed from a number of base pieces. It dates from early - mid 20th century.
