Kinchaku with Basket
This type of kinchaku drawstring bag on a basket base is traditionally used as a handbag - but would also make a lovely little sewing kit. It measures approximately 12cm x 18cm. It's been handmade for sale and still has a commercial label inside. It dates from the early 20th century when items like this were often made by housewives as piecework to supplement the family income. The subdued colours suggest it was intended for an older woman.
