Antique Hand-painted Haori Lining Zuan Design
Zuan designs were the original hand-painted designs for textile workshops and sometimes come with grid marks, corrections and annotations. This one is the design for a man's haori jacket lining and has a couple of brush written notes and some red stamps including one that reads '105' ( I can't read the others) . This is painted on three joined sheets of paper and measures 41cm x 63cm. All the white text and details are actually scratched into the paint. There are some creases marks and small areas of damaged where the white design has been scratched in but still a stunning characterful work of art. I love this so much I used it as my photo for my 'treasure' category - but I can't keep everything for myself! 19th century - very early 20th century
