Antique Patchwork Undergarment
Antique sleeveless yosegire (patchwork) juban undergarment. The vivid pink cotton lining and collar contrast with older silk kimono remnants that have been used to make the outer layer. A characterful piece made from whatever fabrics were on hand. It's a little difficult to date because some of the fabrics are clearly older than others. I will say late 19th - early 20th century but some of the orange crepes are possibly earlier. It measures 78cm in length and 64cm across the shoulders. There is some insect damage and discolouration that you would expect with a piece this old, but it is generally in sound condition. This is a beautiful piece for display but definitely needs to be kept out of sunlight and will be vulnerable to further insect damage.
