Boro Patched Sakiori Jacket

Sakiori  rag weaving work jackets like this had  a variety of different local names depending on the style and where they were made.  We usually associate sakiori with northern Japan but it was produced in other areas as well and I'm not sure where this one is from.  It's very finely woven with a cotton thread warp and torn indigo and white cotton fabric  weft.   This has been well cared for with neat patches and the sleeves and collar have been replaced (the collar is  on top of  some of the patches)  - as was common with this kind of jacket.  It measures  116cm from cuff to cuff and is 79cm long.  The fabric on the sleeves looks mid-20th century, the body of the jacket might be a little older but not a lot. Sakiori  went out of everyday use in most areas in the post-war period.
