Hakama Saiho Hinagata
Saiho hinagata (sewing templates) are miniature clothing samples that were made at sewing schools in around the 1920's or 30's, sometimes earlier. This was a way for students to display their skills in traditional Japanese and/or western dressmaking without using too much fabric. This is a cotton man's hakama - formal skirt-like pants. It measures approx 35cm x 22.5cm. The colour is browner than it looks in the photos. Early 20th century.
