I've seen one being sold as a 'bathmat', but I can't confirm that was their purpose. The circle pattern on the anchors is unusual. This panel is made up of two standard width pieces and measure 66cm x 180cm and only has the pattern on one side

Ropes and anchors) were an auspicious motif on katazome (stencil resist dyed) fabrics designed for textiles that were part of a bride's trousseau. Although not as common as cranes, pine trees etc ropes symbolise safety, stability and the joining of families. Katazome fabrics like this were produced in commercial workshops up until the mid to late 1930s. It's in good condition with some fading and small imperfections.

Price includes GST and postage within Australia
