Meisen Silk Kimono Oddments
Five pieces of meisen silk kimono fabric. Dynamic, modern meisen designs that date from mid 20th century. They're older than they look. Meisen is a machine woven ikat that was developed in the late 19th century. It's very much associated with fashionable young women of the 1920's and 30's and was the most common non-formal kimono fabric of the period. It had a brief revival after the war but because it wasn't suitable for formal wear it declined in popularity as kimonos came to be worn primarily for ceremonial occasions. The red leopard skin pattern fabric has some small marks.
