Old Yuzen Brushes
It's a little difficult to date these brushes but they have a lovely old patina. The same type are still used by yuzen artists today both for bokashi and stencil dyeing (katazome). I also found a site where they were being used to stencil paper lamps. There are three marubake ('round brush') and I think they're all classed as surikomibake ('sliding brush'). The largest one is 13.5cm long and has a diameter of 7.5cm. They're made from deer hair. They seem to be in very good condition but this is not my area of expertise at all so I can't make any guarantee as to how usable they are. If you do have experience with this type of dyeing you may have a better idea. They're also just interesting objects in themselves!
