Peony Katazome Panel
This is a very faded panel of indigo dyed katazome cotton 35cm x 150cm. This lovely old piece is a handwoven and very faded panel from a futon cover. Katazome ('stencil dyeing') is created by stencilling a rice paste resist before dyeing in indigo. This design is peonies and karagusa ('Chinese grass') . Apart from the fading it is in excellent condition with no holes, patches or stains. Late 19th - early 20th century.
