Shabby Katazome Futonji

Antique  katazome stencil resist dyed  indigo futon cover panel.  Old, soft, faded and a little bit shabby  this would make a wonderful backing for a  characterful, boro inspired quilt or simple throw.  There are some marks and  small holes  (largest one is shown in the photos).  The reverse side is unfaded but hasn't had the brown detail added  directly so looks little bit messy where it has bled through.   It measures 128cm x 160cm. Late 19th - early 20th century.
