Shibori Juban Silk

A bolt of  shibori dyed juban undergarment silk -  34.5cm x  8.5m. Viibrant vermillion on white figured rinzu silk.  Unfortunately in recent decades kimono undergarments have become very pastel and dull! Back when kimonos were everyday wear undergarments were often  made from a  vibrant patchwork of re-used fabrics or, if you had a bit more money,  bright and bold shibori-dyed silks like this. Lovely soft drape. I'm a bit concerned about the colourfastness. It's not losing any colour immediately but still should be handled with care. Mid 20th century.
