Vintage Kakehari

Old  but as-new Clover  brand.  Kakehari is often called a third hand in English.   It can be used to hold your fabric taut while  doing unshin or sashiko stitching (but isn't essential).  When Japanese  were sitting on  tatami mats to sew it was attached to a wooden kukedai stand or the neck of a sewing box. When more people began using  western style tables and chairs it was attached by a small metal clamp to the table - also called a kukedai,   Clover still makes kakehari but this one looks like it is mid- 20th century.
