It has been well-used and the paint is worn and discoloured. It dates from the mid 20th century but the pincushion and kakehari have been replaced. The base is 53cm long and when the post is in place it is 37cm high

A kukedai stand is used for traditional Japanese hand sewing. It consists of a base which is knelt on to hold the stand firm and a post with a pin cushion and attached kakehari clamp. (I've included a lovely photo from "Japanese Quilts by Liddell and Watanabe to show the typical arrangement) Kakehari is often called a third hand in English because it holds the fabric or garment taut while you are stitching. (The neck of some traditional Japanese sewing boxes served the same purpose, and there are also small kukedai clamps to use when sewing at a table).

Price includes GST and regular postage within Australia
