Vintage Tin Haribako Sewing Box

This wonderful retro sewing box  (haribako) opens up  to be used as a kukedai sewing stand.  The lid holds a pin cushion and an attached kakehari clamp.  The foot which pulls out from the base of the box is knelt on to hold  the box firm while you use the kakehari as a third hand to hold the edge of your fabric while you stitch.  (Now that most Japanese  will be sitting at a table to stitch, rather than on tatami mats,  a kukedai clamp that attaches to a table  is used for the same purpose) The tin is hand painted  and measures 20 x 9.5 x 4.5cm. It's a bit rusty on the inside but otherwise in good condition  for something that I think has been well used over the years.  Mid 20th century.
