This sample book is dated 1981 and contains 87 pieces of fine pure wool mosu ('muslin') samples for children's kimono or possibly juban undergarments (mostly girls' designs). The front cover translates to 'Silver Gold Kirin Pure Wool Mosu Yuzen'. Pieces are 27cm x 36cm. Japanese mosu is a very fine plain weave wool but not as fine as you might expect from a western cotton muslin. The use of wool mosu in kimonos was very much in decline by the 1970s so I found the 1981 date a little surprising, but evidence that it was still being produced. This is lots of fun for lovers of Japanese kawaii and Showa retro aesthetics!
