Old Cotton and Straw Rope

I'm not exactly sure what this has been used for but possibly  for hanging festival banners. It's made of rice straw covered with cotton fabric - one strand each of  white, light indigo and dark indigo.  It is about 12mm in diameter and 20 metres long.  There's quite a bit of insect damage to the cotton but still has great old folksy character.  Mid 20th century.
