Antique Indigo Check Boro Futonji

Panel of antique indigo cotton boro  futon cover (futonji).  Late 19th to early 20th century.  Approx 96cm x 155cm  As well as the obvious patches there are some small  holes  where the base fabric is nearly threadbare in places. These aren't obvious when it's displayed against a wall. The colour is always hard to get right in the photos but I promise this is a lovely rich indigo.  A simple, characterful piece  perfect for display. 

In recent years boro has become associated with visible mending, but the interesting stitching and  patching on authentic boro pieces  like this were on the inside of the futon cover and weren't meant to be seen.
