Antique Ryokan Guest Register
This characterful old book is dated November 1910 and is a guest register for the Harada Ryokan. It doesn't say the location but from the guest addresses that are legible I think western Japan. It consists of hundreds of handmade washi pages with traditional stab binding. The handwriting is neat and legible for the first entry and devolves very quickly (we've all done that!). As well as the name, address, arrival and departure dates of each guest it records where they've arrived from and where they're heading, their job and 'ethnicity' (which seems to be 100% 'commoner'!) . A lovely old object still in excellent condition and fun for anyone with an interest in Japanese history and language.
