Antique Sumitsubo Carpenter's Line Marker

Sumitsubo means 'ink pot'.  The string is drawn through a pot of black sumi ink, pinned to one end of the timber and flicked down to create a straight line.  Unlike the simple lines of most traditional Japanese carpentry tools sumitsubo were often carved and highly decorative and so have become very collectible.  This one is relatively plain but still an interesting, rustic display item. Late 19th - early 20th century?
