Hemp Woven Netting

To be honest I don't know much about this other than it's Japanese and appears to be old and woven from hemp cord  and is 24cm wide,  This piece is 2m long.  It came to me in  rolls - this is the end of the first roll and  at the moment I've still got  another roll in the shop if you want longer lengths. I don't know what it was used for and haven't been able to find a similar one  online.  Please let me know if you do know what it is! I've made table mats with it for gifts by gluing the edges and  binding  them with antique cotton.  You could just add a binding to the ends of this piece for a characterful runner.   Early - mid 20th century??
