Kakehari and Kukedai Set

A kakehari is often called a third hand in English.   It can be used to hold your fabric taut while doing unshin or sashiko stitching. It's tied to the kukedai clamp and attached to a table or bench. The kukedai has a small pincushion.  These are old haberdashery shop stock and the kakehari is still in its original Clover box.

Traditionally, when sitting on tatami mats to sew, the kakehari was attached to a wooden kukedai stand or the neck of a sewing box.  Small metal kukedai like this were developed when western style tables became more common.
