Katazome Panel - Ropes

Ropes (occasionally with anchors) were an auspicious motif on katazome (stencil resist dyed) fabrics designed for futons that were part of a bride's trousseau.  Although not as common as cranes, pine trees etc  ropes  symbolise  safety, stability and the joining of families.   This remnant piece measures 35cm x 90cm and only has the pattern on one side. Katazome  futon fabrics like this were produced in commercial workshops up until the mid to late 1930s.  It's in good condition with no holes or patches.
