This is a mihon tanmono which were used primarily as a kimono fabric wholesale sampler but also sometimes displayed by retailers. When they were out of date they were sometimes used to make juban undergarments. I've always thought they'd be a great starting point for a a really stunning quilt. This one is silk from Kyoto and measures 36cm x 5.5m . There are 20 individual patterns each 26.5cm long. It's bright and summery and the name of the collection is 'Sawakaze' which means refreshing breeze. There are some small marks but is in generally good condition. Late 20th century
