Showa Retro Uchiwa Fan

Bamboo and paper uchiwa fans were often given out  by shops as promotional material during  very hot Japanese  summers.  Huge numbers must have been made over the years because they still turn up and are reasonably priced.  This one is from  Kuroda specialty umbrella shop in Kikugawa-cho, Shizuoka.  The text says " Everyone loves using western style umbrellas. Kikugawa ekimae (in front of Kikugawa station).  Kuroda western style umbrella specialty shop'.    This has  a very typical mid 20th century 'Showa Retro' look With a young woman wearing a summer cotton yukata (but no umbrella!) There is a small amount  of wear/insect damage.  234cm x 35.5 cm.
