Sakiori Panels
Two panels of traditional sakiori rag weaving that were intended to be turned into a work vest or jacket but never made it that far. They're made with spaces for fitting the collar, but of course the panels could be used for something else. They've come as a pair but one is about 4cm longer than the other. (see photos) They're 28.5cm wide by 133 and 137 cm long. Sakiori is usually associated with northern Japan but I believe these are from the Sada-Misaki peninsular in Ehime prefecture on Shikoku. There was a strong sakiori tradition in Sada-Misaki up until around the early post-war period when, like other folk textile traditions, it fell out of everyday use.
