Sakiori Rag Weaving Work Jacket

Sakiori  rag weaving work jackets like this had  a variety of different local names depending on the style and where they were made.  We usually associate sakiori with northern Japan but it was produced in other areas as well and this ones comes from the Sado-Misaki  Peninsular in Ehime on Shikoku.  It's constructed  from two panels of rich indigo sakiori rag weaving and the sleeves are indigo kasuri.  It measures  114cm from cuff to cuff and is 74cm long. Sakiori  went out of everyday use in most areas in the post-war period.   This piece is in unused condition and dates from mid-20th century
