Handpainted Zuan Design (1)

Handpainted kimono design  or zuan.  38.8cm x 63.5cm . This  is an original design for a formal  black kuro tomesode silk kimono, usually worn by married female family members at weddings.   It  has a traditional fan design with  auspicious pine, plum blossom and chrysanthemum motifs.  It's on quite heavy paper. It's  been a working design and has numerous  pencil and pen annotations, some creases, and small tears on the edge. It's  definitely not in perfect condition but is  still a beautiful and interesting piece of Japanese  kimono history.
